Voyage Moments helps staff notice, capture and understand the everyday events that reveal progress—then connect the right evidence to planning, assessment and review.
The practice problem
The aim is not to capture every moment
A record is useful when it helps someone understand what happened, why it may matter and how it relates to the pupil’s wider journey. More photographs and more entries do not automatically create better evidence.
Strong recording protects staff time by selecting meaningful events, preserving context and making records usable in later assessment, moderation and review.

What good practice can look like
Make the right moments usable
Observation, evidence, assessment, recording and reporting are related but different jobs. Keeping them distinct helps schools reduce duplication and preserve professional judgement.
Describe before interpreting
Start with what the pupil did, said, made or showed. A useful record helps another professional understand the event without relying on unexplained labels.
Include the conditions
Record adult support, prompting, familiarity, environment and anything else needed to interpret what happened fairly.
Capture less, use more
A photograph or video should add context or make something visible. The aim is not a large archive; it is a small body of evidence that can be revisited and understood.
Keep judgement with the right role
Teaching assistants can capture rich observations. Teachers and relevant professionals remain responsible for the assessment decisions that follow.
